Reckless lorry driver cuts into lane and makes motorist behind swerve to avoid it

STOMPer Tushar was driving along Dhoby Ghaut when a lorry cut into his lane suddenly, almost causing a accident if not for the light traffic. The driver had to swerve to avoid the lorry.

The STOMPer wrote:

"I was driving along Dhoby Ghaut back from Clarke Quay to pick my friend up when this lorry suddenly cut into my lane.

"My car was slightly behind it and such action was only possible if the driver didn't bother to keep a proper lookout or didn't care about road safety.

"When we both came to a stomp at the traffic light further down the road, I turned to take a look and saw that it was a foreign driver who gave me a smug and arrogant look.

"I did some research and realised that there foreign drivers did not have to sit for our local driving test and could just convert their foreign licence to a local one.

"This is highly disturbing as my Chinese friends told me that there were many cases of people passing their driving test even without meeting the requisite standards.

"Thankfully, I had a car camera installed. Traffic conditions were also light so I could swerve into the third lane to escape from hitting the lorry or getting hit.

"If we were to collide, I think there would be a high risk of injury and I might end up paying substantial damages as well even though I am innocent.

"I hope the authorities would do more to curb errant drivers like this."

based on the video....seems like the lorry driver should not have filtered out so soon.....however...i'm amazed by stomper's keen observation skills....to be able to established the nationality of the driver under such lighting conditions while driving

SPH, please send this video to LTA and send both drivers off the street for at least some minimum amount of time.

I would say Stomper is a lousy driver too as compared to the already lousy me. Didnt he also notice another reckless driver serving out into the lorry's lane? And did he also check his blindspot before serving into the 1st lane? Quite obviously, both Lorry driver and him didnt.

Even in e video can c e lorry turning out. Whether got signal or not is unclear in e video. But i think u were e one not paying attention or not giving way since u should ve seen e video and either slow down or move to next lane since u said road is empty. But u stay e same speed without slowing down. To be fair sg has nice motorist who will g e way but E lorry driver should ve considered tat sg very selfish wont give way thus should change only when more safe distance but stomper has proven tat he is trily singaporean.
