The Ferrari driver who died when his car crashed into a taxi at Rochor Road on May 12, has left behind an estate totalling $8.1 million.

According to a report in Lianhe Zaobao, Sichuan native Ma Chi, 31, did not leave a will but was covered by two insurance policies valued at close to $2.8 million at the time of his death ($1.25m and $1.54m).

The rest of the money he left behind comes from earnings he made as a financial investor. His widow, Madam He Ting Ting, 29, and mother will be administrators of his estate.

However, a condominium unit the late Mr Ma co-owned with his widow in the east side of Singapore is not part of the total estate listed in the documents.

The Intestate Succession Act states that the deceased's spouse will get half of the estate while the other half will be divided equally among the surviving children, which means Madam He will receive half, while his two daughters, aged four years and two months respectively, will each receive a quarter.

Video footage showed the Ferrari driver had run a red light and knocked into a taxi which then hit a motorcycle. The Ferrari driver, the taxi driver and the taxi passenger have died, while the Ferrari passenger and the motorcyclist survived the crash.

The female Ferrari passenger has been identified as Wu Wei Wei, from Wuhan, China, a recent graduate from the East Asia Institute of Management. Mr Ma Chi was not drunk at the time of the accident.

The accident area, a notorious 'black spot', has seen several accidents.

Causing so many people to get hurt. What's the point of getting rich where you can't spend the money and what's more, as times go by, his children will suffer. Anyway to all of you, if you drink, don't drive.

Glad the family now can move anywhere they like. They didn't crash into anyone and singaporeans are blaming them for all life's troubles. A tragic accident. Get over it.

looking at all the causing death by neglect cases here, i think we won't be surprised if machi get away w jail/fine without compensating the victim's family. however he's dead. since the wife n widow gets his money, then should use (his) money to compensate, if our courts decide to ask them to compensate (but then again i doubt that will happen )
